In StaffPad, nearly everything to do with your score is contained on some kind of staff. For notation elements, this is the traditional notation staff, but of course there are also the "Utility Staffs", such as the tempo staff, or bar number staff.
You can work with audio files, either imported or recorded, directly on your score canvas by using Audio Staffs.
You can add an audio staff to your score in the same way as you do with any other staff; from "Audio" category on the "Add Staff" screen. From a score ordering perspective, we decided to place audio staffs above the strings, but below the percussion, roughly where vocal staffs would normally be placed in a full score. There isn't a precedent for displaying audio within a score, so we're in new territory here - but this seemed more natural than at the top or bottom of the score.
Audio Staffs look like a single-line staff, and contain one or more audio clips. Clips are represented by an audio waveform, and have a container that is visible when you tap on the waveform with Apple Pencil, or your Windows pen.
Tapping on a waveform will show the container for all audio clips contained within that audio staff; this way, you can see the boundaries of the audio clip clearly. The containers will fade away when you tap on another staff.
Audio staffs have some special properties that we'll look at in more detail in the coming articles.
Info
You don't need to worry about audio file management - all audio clips used within a score are stored within the StaffPad score file, for convenience. StaffPad will remove unused audio from the score file, and compress it using advanced compression algorithms, to avoid large file sizes.
