Saving a Template

If you have taken the time to set up a score with a custom list of instruments that you plan on using again, you can save the score as a template for future use. Templates are scores with pre-assigned instruments to help you quickly start writing. You can always add or delete instruments to a score after creating one (see Creating a new score and adding instruments).

To create a template from an existing score, go to Command bar > Export  > Template… and when prompted, give your template name.

Tap Export and after a moment you’ll get a message that the score was successfully exported as a template.

If you give a template the same name as an existing template, StaffPad will append a “2” (and so on with higher numbers) to distinguish it from the first template.

Templates not only include instruments; they also retain all the music from the source score. This can be handy sometimes, but not all the time. If you prefer that your template be free of any music, simply select all the music (Command bar > Select All image-3.png) and then choose Remove Bars image-2.png before saving your score as a template.

Templates can be found by going to the Home screen > Templates. Tap on a template to use it. Tap on Delete to delete a template. (Templates included with StaffPad cannot be deleted).

If you need to restore the factory included templates, tap the StaffPad logo in the top left of the welcome page and choose "Restore Demo Scores". This will reinstall the demo scores and templates as shipped by the developers.
