Writing rests

  Bar Rests and Multi-rests

You don't need to draw bar rests in empty bars. StaffPad will fill these in for you on the printed score, and connected parts. Additionally, if there's a long run of empty bars, StaffPad will automatically generate multi-rests for you for the printed scores, and on the Reader.

Quarter rests: These can be drawn as a zigzag line in the more conventional style. However, if you find that shape difficult to draw, simply draw an S and StaffPad will recognize it as a quarter rest.

Eighth rests: These look like the numeral 7, drawn in one motion.

Add additional strokes in the middle for smaller durations, as small as 128th rests.

Half rests: A simple horizontal stroke resting above the third line of the staff.

Tip: Half rests on beat one are recognized only with at least one other note or rest in a measure in 4/4, so they aren't confused with marks you might make tapping off of a bar.

Whole rests/Bar rests: A simple horizontal stroke hanging below the fourth line of the staff. Remember, you don't need to write bar rests in empty bars; StaffPad will fill these in for you when you print, or when you use the Reader.
