In music, expressive text is a subjective indication like “espressivo”, “cantabile”, or “with heartbreaking flowing passionate emotion”. Text such as this generally goes below the staff.
To create expressive text, long-press below the staff in the same way you would insert a dynamic. Choose Insert Text and start typing your expressive text.
Once you tap Enter or simply tap outside the entry area, your marking will be placed in the score in italic text.
It is possible to concatenate dynamics and expressive text into one object, such as “p espr.” No need to do anything fancy; simply type or write the dynamic as usual, then select it. Then continue to type or write the expressive text.
Once you exit the text entry area, StaffPad will automatically format the dynamic and expressive text fonts properly.
